China’s embodied AI and humanoid robotics boom
How China's dense hardware manufacturing supply chain combined with Vision-Language-Action (VLA) foundation models to accelerate general-purpose humanoid robots.
From robot dogs to bipedal humanoids
China has become the global center of commercial humanoid and quadruped robotics. Manufacturers like Unitree Robotics, UBTECH, AgiBot, and Kepler Robotics have moved from research prototypes to mass manufacturing.
Unitree's G1 humanoid and AgiBot's Farer A2 have lowered entry prices from hundreds of thousands of dollars to commodity consumer hardware levels, mirroring China's earlier electric vehicle manufacturing surge.
The VLA brain foundation
Modern Chinese humanoid makers focus heavily on the embodied 'brain'. Startups like X Square Robot (WALL-OSS), Robot Era (RDT), Spirit AI (Moz1), and LimX Dynamics (FluxVLA) develop end-to-end Vision-Language-Action models that connect multimodal perception directly to physical motor control.
This convergence allows humanoid robots to perform unstructured household and factory manipulation tasks through reinforcement learning and imitation rather than hardcoded motion planning.
